ICA in Alliance with Youth at Risk
Community Transformation Programme The ICA are proud to work in alliance with Youth at Risk, providing our coaches to work on their Community Transformation Programmes and on their Student Leadership Programmes. Youth at Risk’s objective on the Community Transformation Programme is to create safer, stronger more cohesive communities where young people can become valuable members of society who contribute to, rather than detract from the community. Youth at Risk’s community programmes have been transforming the lives of young people since 1992 – turning them away from destructive behaviour, enabling them to take control of their lives and responsibility for their actions, raise their aspirations and realise their potential to build a worthwhile future. This in turn has helped to restore and revitalise the communities in which they live. The Community Transformation Programme is running in nine boroughs: Student Leadership Programme This programme is aimed at students from communities who for a range of socio-economic reasons have not previously participated in higher education, or who may fit the potential ‘profile’ of being ‘at risk’ of not completing their studies.
Through helping these students to develop their learning, interpersonal and social skills the project aims to reduce drop outs from university and increase attendance, achievement and participation in both curricula and extra-curricular activities. As a volunteer, Youth At Risk provide two days of free training to equip you with further skills to add to your coaching skill set and to enable you to work successful within Youth at Risk guidelines and ethics. Community Projects

Many are from working class, and black and Asian families and may well find the experience of being at university at best challenging, or, at worst, alienating.
